I am Cherise Atkinson, a multidisciplinary artist in Quincy, California. Abstract art started as a counterbalance to my haircutting career. A way to help navigate the mental and emotional complexities of working so intimately with others.

My art is informed by my attraction to shape and texture as well as the energetic themes I have felt in my life and witnessed from behind the salon chair.

My work is often the expression of emotional landscape and perceived energy of human behaviors. I collect experiences and I work to visually connect those experiences while in the studio, fusing the themes that seem to energetically relate. Layering media allows me to create the texture and depth needed to visually express the raw vulnerability within my subject matter. My favorite media include fabric, paper, plaster, graphite, acrylic, ink, and oil. I create so that experiences, feelings, thoughts and ideas can expand and occupy physical space beyond the mind and body. 

With each work, I invite the viewer to explore the ways that emotional expansion can create room for thoughtful connections and intentionality in our behaviors.
