Cherise Atkinson

Art

I am Cherise Atkinson, a multidisciplinary artist living in Quincy, California. Abstract art began for me as a counterbalance to my career in haircutting—a way to navigate the social and emotional intensity of working so closely with others.

Over time, my practice has evolved into a kind of gratitude journal, where I explore the energies of enoughness, abundance, and boundlessness. I look more deeply at where abundance exists within the human experience, as well as the mental and emotional influences that cultivate a sense of inner sufficiency.

I work with acrylics, oils, and oil sticks, layering them with paper, fabric, and fiber-based materials. Bold marks, smears, and accumulations of earthy color saturate richly textured, tactile surfaces throughout my work. My practice continues to evolve as I explore the textures and colors of enoughness, trusting that abundance is not something to be found, but something to be recognized.
